Bruge, Paris and Transport Strikes

So, we figured out the first strike, but now as we're in Paris, we're dealing with another....

First off, if anyone ever decides to go to Belgium, Bruge is the place to go. Admittedly though, it would be a great destination for couples. So much fun, so many steps, so much chocolate, so many french fries. We climbed the Belfry--366 steps, climbed to the top of a brewery on tour--221 steps, our room 63 steps. I ate French Fries with mayo and then tried them with curry ketchup...? Not bad on all fronts though. We toured the chocolate museum, and met some great people that were in our hostel. A fun character named Luke from Essex was most entertaining and unfortunately we had a bit of a worry when we heard that the group that went out to the pubs had lost a Canadian. We have many reasons to believe she is okay though. An intern for the hostel company, Wim, was also very funny although I don't think his humor and the group's worked together. We met a great Australian couple on a 6 month tour and a Chilean girl who was absolutely a treat to talk with.

We woke at 5am this morning to catch the proper trains to get to Paris. A quick ride, but our hostel is off the beaten path and it takes a 25min metro ride to get anywhere really. Not too bad since we're at the end of our trip. Our hostel is great and buzzing with hundreds of people. At the moment I'm typing in the middle of the Manchester and Chelsea football --or soccer game and there is a roudy crowd cheering on...I dont' really know who. The pastries have been so great, one thing that we haven't done yet is ice cream or gelato. We were saving that for Paris and have only just arrived...I am quite impatient. We went on a walking tour today with a large group and saw most of the city and are going back tomorrow for some points of interest. Our guide was a guy from New Orleans, Brock, who's lived here for about a year--he was absolutely hilarious and handsomely tipped.

Because the strike is beginning tonight in Paris we don't want to leave the hostel for safety's sake....like I mentioned, we're a bit far off and it would take hours to walk which isn't the best at night time. I hope to report that the rest of our time here is successful...for now I'm going to go shower and try finishing my second book...there seems to be lots of time without sit-coms!
